About KISA
The Kurdistan International Sociological Association (KISA) is an independent, scholarly, non-partisan, and not-for-profit academic association.
KISA is dedicated to advancing sociology, social research, teaching, publication, professional exchange, and public understanding of society. It brings together sociologists, social researchers, academics, graduate students, public intellectuals, and research-oriented institutions interested in Kurdish society, Kurdistan, the Kurdish diaspora, the wider Middle East, and comparative global sociology.
One of KISA's central purposes is to build a strong scholarly bridge among Kurdish sociologists, Kurdistan-related researchers, and international scholars. KISA aims to become a central academic hub for all those engaged in Kurdish sociology — creating a professional space for collaboration, dialogue, comparative inquiry, mentorship, publication, teaching, and knowledge production.
As a scholarly association, KISA is committed to the highest standards of academic integrity, methodological rigour, intellectual openness, and ethical responsibility. KISA does not represent any political party, government, ideological faction, or partisan organization. Its purpose is academic, scientific, educational, and professional.
To promote research, teaching, publication, professional exchange, and scholarly dialogue on Kurdistan, Kurdish societies, the Kurdish diaspora, and related global social issues — and to serve as an international scholarly hub where researchers, students, educators, and institutions can exchange ideas, develop research networks, organize conferences, publish scholarly work, and strengthen the global recognition of Kurdish and Kurdistan-related sociology.
To become a leading international association for Kurdish, Kurdistan-related, and comparative sociology — contributing to a future in which Kurdish societies are studied not only through the lenses of crisis, conflict, or geopolitics, but also as producers of sociological theory, empirical knowledge, cultural analysis, social indicators, methodological innovation, and public scholarship.
